Solutions · By Material
We build our silos exclusively in aluminum and stainless steel. Unlike coated carbon steel, both materials need no paint layer that can wear, crack, or flake off – so nothing from the silo wall ends up in your product.
Material Choice
Carbon steel only resists corrosion as long as its protective coating is intact. In a silo, that coating is the only barrier between the steel and your product.
Carbon steel silos must be painted or coated to protect the steel. Over the service life of a silo, that coating can detach. Once it does, coating particles and the exposed carbon steel can come into contact with the stored product – and end up in your food ingredients or other sensitive bulk solids.
That is a risk we do not accept. Aluminum and stainless steel are corrosion-resistant by nature and require no protective coating inside the silo. There is no paint layer that can fail – and no carbon steel that can contaminate your product.
Carbon steel needs a paint layer to protect it from corrosion.
Over time, the coating can come loose from the silo wall.
Coating particles and exposed carbon steel can enter the stored product.
Aluminum and stainless steel protect your product without a paint layer.
Comparison
The difference comes down to one question: does the material need a coating to protect itself – and your product?
| Criteria | Coated Carbon Steel | Aluminum | Stainless Steel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corrosion protection | Only as long as the coating is intact | Corrosion-resistant by nature | Corrosion-resistant by nature |
| Protective coating inside the silo | Required | Not required | Not required |
| Risk of coating particles in the product | Yes – if the coating detaches | None – no coating | None – no coating |
| Hygiene and cleaning | Depends on the condition of the coating | Easy to clean | Easy to clean, excellent hygiene |
| Maintenance effort | Coating condition must be monitored and maintained | Reduced | Reduced |
| Recyclability | – | Recycling rate well above 90% | Recycling rate well above 90% |
Our Materials
Both materials stand up to the demanding conditions of bulk solids handling. Which one fits best depends on your product, your process, and your industry.
Material
Aluminum silos provide robust, reliable storage for a wide range of bulk solids. In plastics recycling, aluminum is our primary material – including for deodorizing silos.
Material
Stainless steel silos combine corrosion resistance with excellent hygiene – essential in industries with high quality standards, such as food processing.
Your Benefits
No coating that can detach – and no carbon steel in contact with your product.
Protection against contamination from the silo wall.
Both materials maintain their integrity in long-term storage.
Your bulk solid stays as it was delivered.
Uncoated aluminum and stainless steel surfaces are easy to clean.
Hygiene you can maintain in daily operation.
No coating to monitor or renew over the years.
A long-term investment.
